Real Impacts, Real Progress, We need you now!
Dear WCBA Members, Prospective Members and Supporters,
The new Washington sales tax on precious metals and bullion been in effect for more than one week, and we are already seeing the negative consequences we warned lawmakers about. Two large coin shows have been cancelled or moved out of Washington.
Dealers across the state are experiencing huge sales declines, customers walking out frustrated, and widespread confusion at the counter over how the tax applies. Consumers who purchase gold and silver as a hedge against inflation are being hit immediately, and many are simply choosing not to buy at all.
At the same time, there is very encouraging progress to report.
Legislative Progress – January 2026 Session
The Washington legislative session begins today January 12, and the entire Washington Coin & Bullion Association Board continues to work aggressively to have the precious metals tax exemptions reinstated during this 60-day session.
-
House Bill 2115 (HB 2115)
Our pre-filed House bill now has TEN sponsors, a strong and growing show of support. -
Senate Bill 5894 (SB 5894)
We have also pre-filed SB 5894 with bipartisan support:-
Prime Sponsor: Senator Marcus Riccelli (D)
-
Co-Sponsors: Senator Chris Gildon (R) and Senator Manka Dhingra (D)
-
This bipartisan momentum is extremely encouraging and reflects a growing understanding that these taxes are harmful, regressive, and economically counterproductive.
